At the start of the 2020/21 season with the potential blank gameweeks at the start of the campaign, many a FPL manager will be looking to not only get as many premium players as possible, but also round their teams out with the differential or bargain signings. I believe that the differential players will come from Leicester City at the start of the season and in this article will take a look at the potential players that could make the difference for your respective FPL sides when the Premier League campaign kicks off.
So, without further adieu, let’s start this article by looking at the 5 players from Leicester City that could be the difference makers for your sides.
At the start of the 2019/20 campaign, we were all looking towards the new Leicester City signing from Newcastle United Ayoze Perez. Everyone was talking him up, that he was expected to link up with Jamie Vardy and provide the assists to the Premier League top goalscorer and shoot Leicester back to European Football. That never happened, instead it was 22 year old Harvey Barnes who would assist Jamie Vardy.
Harvey Barnes finished the season at 5.8 having scored 133 points for his respective FPL managers and was picked by 2.1% of teams. Compare that to Ayoze Perez who finished the season at 6.0 and scored 129 points. We can see that Harvey Barnes is certainly more value for money. Barnes finished on 6 goals and 10 clean sheets which helped Leicester to Europa League qualification.
Leicester City at the minute have a couple of major injuries in the defence with Jonny Evans, Ricardo Pereira and Ben Chilwell to name three out until after the start of the season. Brendan Rodgers may be looking for one or two defenders to come in and cover while these players come back from injury. Although, they already have one player in James Justin to take a step up and be the difference for Leicester at the start of the season.
He finished the season with 35 points, having got the majority of the points after the lockdown restrictions eased. One assist and four clean sheets in the 2019/20 campaign for James Justin, will he do better next term?
I’ve always liked Youri Tielemans, ever since I first saw him when he was playing with AS Monaco. I always hoped that he would make the move to Manchester United, but alas it wasn’t to be and he ended up at Leicester City. Before the breakthrough of James Maddison and Harvey Barnes, it was Youri Tielemans who would dove-tail with Jamie Vardy and provide the threat against the opposition's defence.
Youri Tielemans in my eyes had a very solid season and thus because of that we see him sticking at the 6.0 price tag, having finished the season at 6.1. Tielemans ended up bagging a very healthy 117 points which encompassed 3 goals, 6 assists and 12 clean sheets.
This is more so a possible transfer that could take place over the summer / autumn transfer window. Dwight McNeil has been one of the top performers and breakout stars from Burnley FC for the last two seasons and has been linked to the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United. It now looks as though he is almost odds on to become a Leicester City player for the start of next season.
The reason behind this transfer is possibly because of how Dwight McNeil performed over the course of the season. A total of 16 clean sheets in a Burnley side in which Nick Pope just missed out of the golden glove. McNeil also has an eye for goal with two goals and seven assists for his more attacking teammates. Could this mean that he links up in midfield with Ayoze Perez, Harvey Barnes and Jamie Vardy.
This is a pure fantasy pick for this fantasy article. The Serbian international will be looking to resurrect his career if the move to Leicester City goes through this Summer. Brendan Rodgers seems to like Luka Jovic, with the Leicester manager looking to add some firepower for the upcoming Premier League and Europa League season. Luka, himself will need to resurrect his career also, given the fact that it looks like he will be nowhere near the Real Madrid side next season.
While on loan from Benfica to Eintracht Frankfurt between 2017 and 2019, in 51 appearances, Jovic scored 25 goals and made himself one of the premier talents in European football. It is what prompted Real Madrid to sign him last season, but since then it has all been downhill. With Real Madrid expected to start a squad overhaul of their own, a move away is certainly what is needed for Luka Jovic.
At the start of the season, in my opinion Leicester City could be a team to provide many an FPL option. With the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City expected to miss the start of the season, through much needed rest, it provides a great chance for Leicester City and their FPL assets to hit the ground running.
